Style Pick: Sailor Shorts

Summer arrived in true force last London it was hotter than Spain! After a few days of drizzle we are all set for warmer temperatures on the weekend. We thought we'd take the opportunity to wear one of our favourite summer styles. Let me introduce our Shirley shorts...

Inspired by the sailor style shorts of the 1940s, these are available in several of our colourful prints: BudgiesWiggleFlower GardenPink Mountains and Neon Star. I love the three button fastening and handy side pockets.

As we're in the mood for casual holiday glamour, we thought we'd take a look at some of our favourite vintage ladies in their best vintage shorts. Starting with the delectable Esther Williams in the 1940s - wearing a rather fabulous pair of shell printed shorts, paired with a white cotton blouse and lucite sunglasses.

This 1930s outfit is the epitome of sailor chic. We love this ladies' little cap and white socks!

Rita Hayworth was one of the most glamorous actresses of the golden Hollywood era. The pussy-bow blouse and summer wedges are a great style choice for slightly cooler summer days.

One of my all time short-wearing idols is Ginger Rogers. Here at the Palava studio, we love a little Fred and Ginger. So much so, Bryony designed our Dancers print with the two of them in mind. I grew up in awe of Ginger Rogers and the gorgeous outfits she danced in so effortlessly. But it was never the feathery dresses or chiffon gowns that excited me the most (although they were rather exciting) was her in trousers and shorts! Here she is in a wonderful fringed two piece, getting ready to tap!

And if anything could beat Ginger Rogers tap-dancing, it might be Ginger Rogers with a dalmatian...I can't decide who of the two is more elegant! Ginger's chiffon bow, soft knit cardigan and white plimsoles certainly makes for the perfect vintage sports chic.
Lastly, a girl after our own hearts...Maureen O'Hara. The Irish born American actress and singer became known in Hollywood for her feisty roles in classic Westerns. Here she is, surrounded by beautiful fresh flowers - all set for summer.

One of my personal favourites from the Palava range is our Wiggle shorts. The vintage inspired pink and lemon wiggle print looks perfect with a white top and espadrilles.

Our Pink Mountains shorts are the choice for those who dream of countryside adventures. We designed this print inspired by the wildlife and mountainous woodland of beautiful Austria.
With summer holidays coming up, and plenty of sunshine due in the next few months - it's the perfect time for sailor shorts. Get yours now!
