"Feathers were the height of fashion in Victorian times - a trend that became highly destructive for the world’s bird population. At the height of the “Plume Boom” in the early 20th century, both Paris and London were important auction centres of previously unknown, exotic plumes imported from colonies, such as hummingbirds, vultures and birds of paradise for feathers to decorate hats and other articles of dress.
A single order of feathers placed by a London dealer during this period included 6,000 bird of paradise feathers, 40,000 hummingbird feathers and 360,000 feathers from various East Indian species.
Reports of these atrocities led to the formation of the first conservation societies, led by women who sought to ban the trade and persuade fellow ladies not to use plumage for their own adornment."
It’s hard to beat a Cynthia dress. She looks consistently fabulous on all shapes, sizes and ages, so it’s not surprising that she’s a best seller.
Not only does Cynthia fit like a dream but she also offers two looks in one. Her mandarin collar can be turned down like a classic shirt collar or worn up giving her an elegant and contemporary edge.
To complete the outfit, Cynthia comes with a round covered buckle belt in matching fabric. Oh, we should also mention her brilliantly deep pockets. Perfect for stashing away treasures!
Wear Cynthia with flats for a relaxed daytime look or team her with heels for a more dressy, vintage vibe.
