About the Style: Rita is a shining star of a dress. She’s the one you’ll want to dance the night away in… Her shape is exceptionally flattering and helps enhance a beautiful hourglass silhouette. Her tulip sleeves are non-restrictive and allow for full arm movement. Rita’s shape is inspired by original dresses of the 1940s and she’s definitely got that special touch of vintage elegance about her. We make Rita from Tencel which has the same floaty weight and feel to rayon (the material that this style of dress would have been originally made from).
About the Print: Easily recognised by its small circular clustering flowers or ‘buttons’ and it’s feathery leaves, tansy grows abundantly in abandoned green spaces in urban and disturbed environments. As early as 1600, tansy cakes (made of the leaves) were eaten at Easter, tansy pudding and tea as well. Tansy has been used for centuries as a flavouring for food and drink, having a somewhat spicy, bitter, warming flavour. Used in small quantities in old recipes of Britain, it is a well documented flavouring being used before the spice trade took hold and many of our wild spices got forgotten.
About the Fabric: We continue to use the ethical superhero fabric, Tencel™, for many of our clothes. Tencel™ is made from the pulp of Eucalyptus trees. It has the feel of vintage rayon - beautifully floaty and drapey, it washes really well and is biodegradable. It’s the most environmentally responsible fabric that we have come across and we love the look it gives to our dresses.
