Our guest of the week is the stylish Shirin (@shirinatra), a vintage-inspired blogger, influencer and Palava fan from Germany. Shirin is a self-confessed bookworm, Old Hollywood aficionado and illustrator who not only runs her own personal instagram, but also @missaudreyshollywood, an inspiring account dedicated to the style, elegance and vibrant personalities of the actors and actresses and of the 1940s and 1950s. So she's certainly a girl after our own heart!
Shirin's style is classic and effortless - so we were thrilled to see her in two outfits from our Scottish Highlands collection! We took the opportunity to ask Shirin some questions about her outfit choices and where she finds her style inspiration.
How would you describe your personal style and what inspires you?
"I would describe my style as simple but chic. I think less is more and that's also what I'm going for with the way I dress. My biggest inspirations are actresses and models from the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's - for example Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. Circle Skirts and blouses or turtlenecks and cigarette pants are what I love to wear the most. Also, I'm not going for a 100% true vintage look, I'm only going for a vintage-inspired one. I love mixing different decades and creating my own unique vintage style."
Talk us through your Palava outfits!
"The first piece I went for is the Rita - Marbled Feathers Dress. It has a very vintage inspired cut and I absolutely fell in love with the pattern. This dress is not only perfect for everyday but also for special occasions and that's why I chose it.
Because I loved the feather pattern so much, I had to go with the Sylvia Marbled Feathers Skirt for my second piece. Just like the dress, it's absolutely beautiful and a new skirt is always a good idea. The last thing I chose is the mustard knitted ttop, which I combined with the skirt - both fit perfectly together. It's very soft and the mustard color is perfect for every season, in my opinion. Also you can never go wrong with a knitted top."
What are your earliest memories of enjoying clothing and fashion? How has your style changed over the years?
"I loved dressing up as a child but I think I really got into Fashion when I was around 12. Back then I loved wearing bright colours and headbands all the time. All in all, my style changed a lot - I used to wear very sporty and modern clothes until I was around 17/18. Which means - crop tops, jeans, Nike shoes and bomber jackets. Then it slowly changed into a more chic clothing style with a few vintage elements. And now with 20, I'm going for the full vintage-inspired look!"
If you could travel back in time to any year, what would it be and why?
"It's pretty hard to choose one particular year but it probably would be one in the 1950s. I would love to go to America, visit a Frank Sinatra concert and go shopping with Audrey Hepburn. That would be an absolute dream!"
