Rehoming Palava Fabrics
Our fabrics are unique to us. Love us or hate us, it is what makes Palava Palava. Every company that makes clothes produces waste - even if only off-cuts from the sewing process - and we are no exception. It’s what the company does about this waste that is important.
Digitally printing fabric allows us to print exactly what we need for each season... but sometimes there are small amounts left over, sometimes there are faults in the print. We don't bin it though! To reduce our impact and reach our zero-waste goal, year after year, we save everything.
And we do mean everything; from rolls of vintage fabrics kept in our warehouse in Yorkshire (even since the 1980s!) to collecting all off-cuts from the production of our dresses in London; we avoid any of it going to landfill.
Our Fabric Fair is a great opportunity to give these unique fabrics a new home!
Countering Black Friday
Every year, the Black Friday craze encourages people to buy things on a whim, things which might not have been bought without all this pressure. Data shows that 63% of people feel drawn to making impulsive Black Friday purchases[1]. And to top it off, we also know that 52% of consumers regret buying a sale item[2].
As a member of the Palava community you can help us counteract Black Friday and the waste generated from it.
This year, our Fabric Fair is taking a stand and encouraging us to think differently.
Let's join forces! Here are all the ways we achieve zero waste, together:
1. Fabric bundles - every production process has waste, like it or not. Our fabric bundles mean nothing goes to landfill, even the smallest scraps.
2. Fabric remnants - End of rolls or seconds, these are often the very last remaining fabrics in these designs. These might be separated out because of small marks or blemishes, so we can’t use them in production.
3. Zero-waste accessories - these are items that we have made from leftover fabric after the production of our dresses in London.
4. Fabric by the meter - search through our archive of unique prints going right back to the 1980’s.
5. Wallpaper borders and fabric trims - vintage and colourful, these are just another example of how we just don’t want to throw anything away.
6. Planting trees - with every order placed over the Black Friday - Cyber Monday weekend, we will plant a tree for you in our Palava x Ecologi forest.
7. Giving to charity - for every fabric bundle you buy, we donate half of the revenue to charity. This time the charity is Waste Aid.
