Machinist (Full-time preferred, with flexibility)

Location: Palava Warehouse, Northallerton (DL6 3RE)

About Palava

Palava is a small, creative clothing company making joyful, sustainable garments in small batches. We care deeply about craftsmanship, UK manufacturing, and doing things properly — not quickly.

Right now, we’re at the start of something exciting. Our team is split between London and North Yorkshire, and we’ve just taken on a big new challenge: transforming a derelict farm building in Northallerton into The Hatchery — our very own micro-factory and creative hub. Here we’ll make clothes to order, turn waste into new fabrics, and share skills with our community through workshops and events.

We believe in building a workplace that works with people’s lives. If you join us, you’ll be part of a small, friendly team where everyone’s ideas matter. This is a chance to be there from the beginning — to help shape how we grow, build something meaningful, and carry forward the future of UK manufacturing.

The Role

-Operate industrial sewing machines in a workshop environment
- Work on production runs with speed, accuracy, and consistency
- Support different stages of garment making as needed
- Help keep production flowing smoothly and efficiently
- Create well‑made accessories from remnants and scraps
- Find efficient, clever ways to work productively and minimise waste — bringing your own ideas for how we can improve and make the most of every piece of fabric

What You’ll Bring

- Experience in a factory or production setting
- Confident using industrial sewing machines
- Fast and productive with a sharp eye for quality
- Self‑motivated, practical problem solver
- Reliable team player with good communication skills
- Flexible to work extra hours in busy periods

Nice‑to‑haves (but not essential):
- Experience working on a production line or cutting multiple layers of cloth
- Experience working with heavier fabrics (clothing or upholstery)
- Ability to pattern cut
- Familiarity with computer pattern systems such as Gerber
- Experience teaching or running sewing workshops

Hours, Pay & Benefits

- Full‑time preferred, but we can be flexible with hours (for example, school hours) for the right candidate
- Competitive hourly rate depending on skills and experience
- Staff clothing allowance
- Yearly bonus tied to company sales performance

Location & Transport

- Based at the Palava warehouse, Northallerton, DL6 3RE
- Our warehouse is in a rural location — you’ll need your own transport
