Dispatch No.10 – A better fit

This short dispatch follows Bryony as she travels to the University of Manchester to learn more about why fit is an important part of sustainable production. Drawing on conversations with pattern‑cutting expert Dr Simeon Gill and PhD researcher Clare Richardson, Bryony reflects on why so many people struggle to find garments that truly fit, how standard sizing systems fail real bodies, and why better fit is essential if we want clothes to be loved, worn and kept in use for longer.

This film introduces the ideas Bryony learned at the university – from body‑scanning and pattern engineering to understanding the emotional impact of fit – and sets the stage for a more sustainable way of making clothes that respond to individuals rather than averages

More in‑depth films are on the way, including a conversation with PhD student Clare Richardson about clothing fit and circularity, and a visit with Simeon Gill to see how body‑scan technology can help brands design garments that truly fit.
