Celebrating 15 years of Palava Folk

Celebrating 15 years of Palava Folk

As we celebrate 15 years at Palava, we want to shout from the rooftops about our wonderful customers, after all, where would we be without you ?
We love to hear about you, our customers.
We have fascinating and lovely customers, we count ourselves lucky this way.
The shop in King's Cross has been an important way for us to meet some of you face-to-face and we love a chat over a cup of tea.
You are our inspiration.
You bring the brand to life and make the whole thing worth doing.
So we truly do love to hear your stories.
From biologists,
to MBA graduates,
to librarians
to writers,
to film stars
to artists
to farmers and beyond ...
Over the coming months, we will be asking some of you, our customers, to talk about who you are, what you do, and why Palava has played a part in your lives.
Recently we wrote an Instagram post about not being everyone's cup of tea. The response was overwhelming and that led me to think... we want to know more about the folk that wear Palava.
Please get in touch with your stories, if you email or instagram us, we would love to hear more.
But for now,
To kick off this series we would like to introduce you to Yvonne. We first spotted Yvonne on instagram. The clothes and dresses seem to suit her down to the ground, quite literally. We spotted our dresses amongst her array of vegetables, always with a big smile and a zest for life and a great sense of humour.

Let's hear from Yvonne

Please tell us about yourself

I am Yvonne Romein and I live with my husband Gertjan, our son Stein and his girlfriend Jana on a small arable farm with a few cows in Zuidland, South Holland.
We have 20 hectares where we grow potatoes, corn, wheat, sugar-beets, pumpkins, and courgettes.
We run a farm shop where we mainly sell local vegetables, fruits, and delicacies but also other regional products like beer and apple juice.

What is a motto or quote that you live by?

I love my work and put a lot of myself into it.
I think it’s important to inspire people to take care of themselves with clothing, lifestyle, and food.
This is easily done in a Palava dress.
Since discovering Palava, I don’t want to wear anything else (I have been buying less clothing so I choose carefully)...

Can you describe the farm where you work and what a typical day might look like?

A day at the farm starts at 7 a.m.
The shop opens at 10 and I support two assistants with learning differences.
We serve customers and I manage the orders and restock the shelves.
We all have lunch together and close the day with a cup of tea in the afternoon.
After the shop closes at 5.30, at the end of the day, we care for the cows.

What's your favourite thing to grow?  Now that we're moving into autumn, are you growing anything new or different?

My favourite vegetables are beetroots. You can make so many different delicious things with beets - everything is possible!

Why do you choose to wear  Palava ?

They are fantastic work dresses - I wear Palava dresses almost every day. The length of the skirts (the deep pockets that hold a lot !) and the flared skirt are all great. The fabrics are excellent - you don't have see every speck of dirt and they are really durable, important in my line of work.

How did you first come across palava?

The first Palava dress I bought was the Farmers Market dress in 2022. I saw a photo on Instagram from Polkadot, a stockist of Palava in Haarlem. I thought the dress was amazing -  all those little market stalls with fun things just exactly what I do and what we stand for!
I also get many comments, people want to see everything that’s on it, and then I do a twirl for them!

What is important to you in life?

Yoga, singing, and taking care of the plants bring me a lot of relaxation. We love music and often go to concerts. Once a year, we also organise our own little music festival featuring six bands on two stages at the farm.

How do people find out more about you and your business ?

You can follow us on instragram to see what we get up and our farmshop.
We also have a website boerderijwinkelzevenbergen.nl
